Greenwood Rising is a new museum in Tulsa, OK, dedicated to the story of the1921 Tulsa Race Massacre and the resilient community where it occurred.

At Greenwood Rising, visitors begin their journey with a media piece set to the poem Still I Rise by Maya Angelou, which juxtaposes imagery of Greenwood past and present. Initial galleries share the birth and growth Greenwood community, and give visitors a sense of Black Wall Street in the early 1900s. Visitors also face the history of anti-Blackness that pervaded the community and country at this time. A media piece and gallery communicate key events and personal anecdotes from the massacre itself, and subsequent spaces show Greenwood’s evolution since 1921. The final gallery is a large-scale interactive media sculpture that allows visitors to share personal commitments to work toward racial reconciliation.
